- HUE: pure color
- SHADE: add black
- TONE: add gray
- TINT: add white
warm colors: reds, yellows, oranges
cool colors: blues, greens, purples
HARMONY
- analogous: any three colors which are side by side on a 12-part color wheel
- complementary: any two colors which are directly opposite each other
- split-complementary: one key color and two colors adjacent to that key colorβs complement
- triadic: colors evenly spaced on the color wheel
- tetradic: key color and three more colors, all equidistant from the key color on the color wheel (double-complementary color scheme)
- square: four colors spaced evenly around the color wheel
- monochromatic: use a single base hue and extend the color scheme by using different shades, tones, and tints of that color family
