Singapore office workers lose an average of 66 minutes every day to inefficient work — the equivalent of over 5 hours a week lost to low-value tasks. This wasted time could translate to a potential loss of SG$85 billion annually — 12.5% of Singapore’s GDP in 2023.

Key challenges of fragmented work and attention:
- High adoption of multiple tech platforms: Almost half (48%) of Singapore workers use three to four tech platforms daily, while one-fifth use five to six.
- Switching between these platforms multiple times a day: One third switch between three to four times daily, and a further 17% switch five to six times a day.
- This constant toggling between applications contributes to workplace stress: Nearly half (48%) of respondents agree that switching from one tech platform to another adds to stress at work.
The cost of inefficiency and siloed knowledge:
- A considerable amount of the workday is dedicated to information retrieval: Almost a quarter (23%) spend 1-2 hours per day searching for information
- Workers also report spending a notable portion of their day on tasks they deem inefficient: 22% spend 1-2 hours per day on inefficient work, and the mean time spent on inefficient work is approximately 66 minutes per day.
- When asked to identify inefficient work tasks, 42% cited "searching for information across different platforms" as a key inefficient task, while "swapping from one tech tool to another" was also identified by 30% of respondents, further emphasising the productivity drain caused by fragmented workflows.
Time spent learning new tech tools:
- A significant proportion of respondents report spending more than just a few minutes learning new tools: 18% spend 1-2 hours learning new tools, and another 18% take between 31- 45 mins. The mean time spent learning a new tech tool is approximately 84 minutes.
- Many view this time as time wasted: 35% agree that their time is wasted learning new tech tools
Strong appetite for AI to streamline processes:
- There is a clear desire for a more integrated work experience: a significant 76% of respondents stated they would be likely to migrate everything in their work life to a single platform if one existed that could consolidate their current tools.
- Singapore office workers are highly receptive to leveraging AI to reduce time spent switching between platforms: an overwhelming 82% indicated they would be likely to use AI if it could drastically reduce the time spent switching platforms or searching for information.
- Gen Z is the most receptive to AI (85%), while Gen X is the least receptive (76%)
- Respondents identified several work tasks that they believe AI could automate or assist with, including:
- Summarising existing documents (49.13%)
- Retrieving information (46.35%)
- Automation of repetitive tasks (46.25%)
- Writing emails (42.75%)
- Research & analysis (42.14%)
