There is a time for every startup when board meetings become formal. The goal of a board meeting should be to maximize the value you get as a founder, while minimizing the amount of time you spend preparing. A board meeting is also an opportunity for you to take a step back and ask yourself: Are you executing? Are you innovating? Are you hiring? Below is a general structure for an early-stage board meeting and deck. Many of our founders riff on this and continue to use the format from those early days to long after IPO.
